Volunteer of the Month: Property Guardian Donald Allan

Meet our latest Volunteer of the month, one of our faithful Property Guardians, Donald Allan. Originally from downtown Toronto, Donald was drawn to Nova Scotia’s clean, fresh air, the beauty of the forests, and the thousands of kilometres of beautiful, natural shoreline. All the Way from Brazil: Office Volunteer Arlete Casagrande

Recently arrived from Brazil, Arlete joined our office volunteer team in 2019. At the time, she was studying at NSCC and was looking for opportunities to engage with her new community. She reminisces, “As a newcomer, it can be challenging to get to know people outside of the academic environment. Volunteering helped me to overcome the emptiness and sadness of living in a new country, where you don't know anyone. It gave me a purpose.”

Roy Parker : Enjoying an active retirement as a Property Guardian

Roy Parker loves nothing more than spending time on the river. With a 34 year career as an Environmental Biologist with Environment Canada under his belt, you'd agree he has earned that leisure time. But, keen to give back and help protect our natural heritage, Roy decided to volunteer as a Property Guardian for our Tangier River Conservation Lands. His passion for nature shines through in his words, as he describes his almost paternalistic love for this property.
