Reflecting on 30 years of the Nova Scotia Nature Trust: Bonnie Sutherland’s Journey

07 Mar 2025

As the Nature Trust celebrates 30 years of dedicated conservation, we take a moment to reflect on the journey that has shaped our lasting impact. We sat down around the kitchen table at our office with Executive Director, Bonnie Sutherland, as she shared the powerful and personal moments that have defined her nearly 30-year journey with the organization.

In the early days, Bonnie was diving through archives for maps, working out of a broom closet at Dalhousie’s research building, and knocking on doors—calling landowners one by one. Paving the way for land conservation in Nova Scotia, long before it was on most people’s radar. It was a mission to save even one piece of land forever, starting with just one door, one property at a time.

Watch the full video to hear Bonnie’s heartfelt reflections on the people, places, and moments that have shaped her journey at the Nova Scotia Nature Trust.
