Nature Trust Launches Third Expedition for the Earth Adventure: Ecuador 2018

07 Oct 2017

The Nova Scotia Nature Trust and Berg Adventures International are teaming up to offer their third adventure trek to one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots: Ecuador. While exploring the cloud forests, upper amazon basin, volcanoes and Andean peaks of northern Ecuador, participants will raise funds for the Nature Trust’s conservation efforts in Nova Scotia.

Expedition for the Earth is a Nature Trust endeavour that offers an adventure alternative to the traditional marathons and charity walks. The inaugural trip was to Patagonia in 2013, followed by Iceland in 2016. The adventure offers participants the opportunity to explore some of the world’s most impressive and fascinating protected areas. While learning about the protected places, unique flora and fauna in other parts of the world, the participants are fundraising to help the Nature Trust preserve special natural places in Nova Scotia.
To date, the Expeditions have raised over $100,000 for land conservation in Nova Scotia.
“An adventure like this reawakens your soul, and reminds us all of the wonder and significance of wild, natural places,” said Laura Hussey-Bondt, participant of both previous Expeditions.

Each Expedition for the Earth trek has been fully guided by Berg Adventures International which is led by renowned adventurer and mountaineer Wally Berg. Wally has completed four Everest ascents, nine expeditions to Antarctica and numerous ascents of all “Seven Summits” among many other adventures. Mr. Berg loves bringing the power and magic of adventure to his clients.

“Ecuador is every nature-lover’s dream! With more species of plants and animals than most places you would ever visit, combined with the countless diversity of ecological reserves, Ecuador is an excellent fit for the Nature Trust’s next Expedition for the Earth,” said Nature Trust Executive Director Bonnie Sutherland.

The Expedition for the Earth adventure to Ecuador will take place September 22-29, 2018. Outdoor enthusiasts will have the opportunity to explore some of Ecuador’s most beautiful places including: Cayambe Coca Ecological Reserve, Cuicocha, Otavalo and Fuya Fuya.
Registration for 2018 Expedition for the Earth is now open, and all those interested can find out more about the trek on October 27th at an information night with Wally Berg, where he will showcase images from previous expeditions to Ecuador, share stories from his travels, and answer any questions those interested in the adventure may have.

The Information Night will be held at the Labatt Breweries Atlantic Beer Institute (Keith’s Brewery Market) at 1496 Lower Water St., Halifax on October 27th from 6-7pm.
