A Conservation Celebration!
02 Jul 2024
What would you do with Twice the Wild? That question set in motion the Nature Trust’s most ambitious campaign ever. It was a bold vision to harness the power of public support, leveraged with government grants and other funding partnerships, to rapidly accelerate unprecedented conservation action for Nova Scotia.
Doubling the protected lands in our care was a lofty idea at the time, taking shape as the world was reeling in response to the pandemic. But little did we know just how much concern, passion and commitment there was to protect the most wild, beloved, and irreplaceable places in this province.
Fast forward through four action-packed years: we were thrilled to be ready to share the incredible news that our vision of Twice the Wild has become reality! 30,000 acres of diverse landscapes, habitats, and ecosystems across the province that will now be protected forever. It was something special to celebrate and on June 12th we had an opportunity to share this huge win for nature together with more than 100 guests at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, made possible with the generous support of presenting partner, East Coast Credit Union!

Twice the Wild is a remarkable achievement for nature — but it has also been a remarkable demonstration of the power of community support. We are so grateful for the many donors, volunteers, landowners and partners who were inspired and motivated to take action and do something tangible for this place we love. Together we have truly created impact that we can see, and that will ensure future generations will always have an opportunity to experience the wild places and natural wonders that makes this province so special.
This conservation success has been the result of the generosity of thousands of donors and supporters over the past four years, and we thank every one of you. We wish everyone could have celebrated with us in person. Bringing people together was certainly fun — to learn about the places that are now protected forever, the species that live there, the habitats that will be safe havens for the future, and also to spend time with a roomful of people who are hearty nature-lovers.
But Twice the Wild is all about space, the spectacular outdoors, and the natural gems from tip to tip of this province that will now be wild for all time. So if you weren’t able to be with us to celebrate this major conservation win for all of Nova Scotia, we hope that you will find joy in visiting some of these cherished places, or learning more about the wonders there.
And we hope you feel proud to think about what your support has done! Twice the birds, twice the rugged coastlines, twice the turtles, twice the hiking, twice the trees…twice the love of a natural legacy that you have made possible, and one which will be here forever!
