This 20 hectare riverside and island property of rare Acadian floodplain forest, wetlands, and riverbank is protected by the Nova Scotia Nature Trust as of 2018. By conserving and caring for these ecosystems we are helping to ensure the health of the river and the species that depend on it.

These Conservation Lands host many species of plants, mammals, birds, and one special reptile: the Wood Turtle, a species at risk. These imperilled turtles are declining in number across Canada, in part due to habitat loss. Wood Turtles will find a safe refuge on these lands, for generations to come.

The lands are managed for nature conservation by the Nature Trust in partnership with local landowners, volunteers, and visitors. Please enjoy these lands in a respectful way by ensuring that you do not remove, damage, or destroy any plants, wildlife and other natural features of the property.

David and Faye Sobey generously donated these lands to the Nature Trust to be cared for in perpetuity. This property is steeped in memories for the Sobey family, who have been visiting this part of the river for over 80 years. With this gift, they have ensured that this place stays wild, for nature and for people, so that future generations can experience the same sense of wonder that captured their hearts so many years ago.
