Goat Lake Conservation Easement (Easement)

234 acres in Squid Cove, Lunenburg Co.
Donated by Rudy Haase

Significance

Forest, lakeshore

Details

The key conservation aspect of this property is that it is a mostly undeveloped lake in an otherwise highly developed part of Nova Scotia. The forests on these lands are dominated by mid-successional and even-aged red spruce, with black spruce, balsam fir, red maple, and scattered white pine. Areas along Goat Lake that are bounded by the old rail bed were likely spared from past harvests and have uneven-aged dynamics with a greater hemlock and broadleaved component.

This is an easement on privately owned land. Permission from Nature Trust staff is required to access this property.
