Little Gooseberry Island Conservation Easement (Easement)
28 acres in Mahone Bay, Lunenburg, NS
Donated by Stewart and Mary Lindsay
Significance
The island supports 1.5 kilometres of coastline with rocky shoreline, beaches and undeveloped marine habitats. The island's unusually rich soils support remnant Acadian forest - with white pine, red maple and yellow birch - uncommon to coastal areas.
Details
Stewart and Mary Lindsay generously donated a conservation easement on Little Gooseberry Island in 2009. The Lindsay family has owed the island and lived there seasonally for over 50 years. They protected it to ensure it would remain a wonderful example of Nova Scotia's coastal legacy for their children, grandchildren and future generations.
