C.W. Anderson Conservation Lands (Donation)
Significance
Acadian forest with elements of mature forest, 1,000m of shoreline on the Main Branch of the St. Mary's River, bald eagle feeding site.
Details
This 111-acre property was protected in 2009 in partnership with the Anderson family of Sherbrooke. It's steep slopes support elements of mature Acadian forest, and bald eagles are known to feed at the adjacent "Mad Falls" waterfalls. The property also helps to protect and maintain suitable habitat for Atlantic salmon, a globally imperiled species.
The property is named the C.W. Anderson Conservation Lands, in honour of Murray’s grandfather, who was a mill owner, shipbuilder and general store proprietor in Sherbrooke in the early 1900s. It is the fourth Nature Trust property protected on the St. Mary's River.
