Ship Rock Islands (Easement)

Ship Rock Islands. 38.18 acres in Murphy Cove, Halifax Co.
Donated by Rudy Haase

Significance

Coastal islands, cliffs.

Details

These four nearshore islands known as Upper Tickle, Lower Tickle, Ship Rock and Moose, are a kayaker’s paradise. The islands contain stunning sea cliffs, rocky coastline habitat and a coastal forest dominated by balsam fir and spruce.

The group lies immediately offshore of the area known as the Tickles, near Murphy Cove in Halifax Regional Municipality. The islands are surrounded by a dozen smaller undeveloped provincial Crown-owned islands and are representative of the Eastern Shore Islands natural landscapes.

Undisturbed coastal islands are becoming increasingly rare in the province of Nova Scotia, making Ship Rock Islands a triumph for land conservation.
