Robert Bateman Urges Conservation Action
"The real problems facing all living things on this planet are not economic or
technical, they are philosophical"
~Robert Bateman
Robert
Bateman is a man who lives his philosophy. Artist, naturalist, teacher, public
speaker, and family man. Mr. Bateman has always shared with others the awe and
reverence the natural world's beauty inspires in him. Born in Toronto, ON, currently
residing on Salt Spring Island, BC, this great Canadian has traveled the world,
visually documenting its unique creatures, and experiencing its diverse cultures.
In Canada alone his wildlife paintings have been featured in over a dozen exhibitions,
he has two public schools named after him, he holds 10 honorary degrees, and
has received the Order of Canada. At 76 years of age, he continues to work at
a feverish pace. Nowadays, he uses the fame and respect he has earned to spread
his philosophy - one of respect for life and the need to protect sacred places
- to all who will hear him. His contributions to the Nature Trust have been
invaluable: as guest speaker at our Annual
Dinner in 2001, as art donor to our Annual Silent Auction, and as Honorary
Life Member and Membership Campaign Patron.
